Finally, and after a lot of work, letters, surveys and conversations, the Revista Chilena de Anestesia has been indexed in SCIELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online). This is one of the largest databases of scientific journals in the world. Its purpose was to work with Central and South America. It now includes Spain, Mexico and other countries. Its reach is to many millions of professionals, not only in the field of health, but also in many other interests for example art, literature, and others.

What had been hoped for many years, Dr. Carolina Cabrera Editor in Chief of our Journal, has achieved. Congratulations to her for this gigantic achievement and of course to the Editorial Committee that helps and advises in the activities of this publication. Many Editors in the past have tried, but it was Carolina who brought this task to a successful conclusion. We are very happy with the contributions that each one of us made in this process.

Anesthesiologists should feel very happy because it is a major step forward for the Journal as well as for our Society. More visualization and citations reaching millions of readers.

The Journal was subjected for many months, perhaps years, to a very rigorous scrutiny and control by the authorities of SCIELO. It was not enough to apply for inclusion it was necessary to demonstrate periodicity, validity over time, absence of gaps, quality, rigor, professionalism, technical capabilities, among many others. I imagine that our Editor-in-Chief will at some will let us now the process in detail and what is to come.

As I mentioned in the title, this does not end here. It should not end only with this indexing. There are other databases to which we should apply. In other languages and other continents. Databases with even more requirements.

I think that SCIELO indexing will produce changes in the Journal and in its advisory committees. It will be necessary to apply with a higher quality of papers. I suspect the Editorial Committee will be “shuffled” by the Editor. New members and a new International Committee among others. We should do our best to integrate those who publish outside. There will be metrics to evaluate reviewers; what is published, how many papers are rejected and how many pass the filter.

I see an interesting future and surely with the efforts of the anesthesiology community in general we will continue to reach new ports. I have no doubt that this will be the case.

Long life to our Journal.
